Children's Church 1st & 2nd Service

Children's Church is an exciting time for kids to learn God's Word in a way that they can understand. First service starts at 9:00am with a whole group service with music, games, fun and fresh faces. Second service starts at 10:45am with different lessons, different people & same excitement! Look for the signs on the classroom buildings to find where your child belongs.

Regardless of who you are or where you've been, our hope is that you will find the exciting, powerful life found in Jesus Christ! We've found that God has given each of us purpose and joy, right in the midst of raising a family, attending school, or working a job! We desire to share a message that is understandable and relevant to everyday life. Come and discover how church can be an transforming experience that draws you closer to God.

We want you to be part of the family here at NLCC, so here are some suggestions that can help you do that: First, wear what's comfortable (Jeans and shorts are perfectly fine!) Next, enjoy our incredible band, practical teaching, free Starbuck's coffee, and regular people just like you.

Small Groups - Small Groups

What is a Small Group? A caring community of four to twelve people who meet regularly in someone's home and look after the care of each other's needs. Why Small Groups? Small groups meeting in homes were the original New Testament Church. Friendships quickly develop as physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs are met. Are there different types of small groups? While most small groups are made up of a cross section of people, some are more specific, such as: men's groups, women's groups, service groups, support groups and new believers groups. Come join a group, connect, make some friends, and get to know God more.

Divorce Care for Men

DivorceCare groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements:

A Seminar with Experts
During the first 30-40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video.

A Support Group with Focus
After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week's video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.

You may join this group at any point in the series but must be divorced to attend. Please contact Kurt Krieger at 525-8948 with any questions.

As Christians we are called to be Jesus' hands and feet in a hurting world. That is what the Helping Hands ministry is all about - reaching out to those in need.

The Helping Hands ministry provides assistance to families inside and outside our church who are going through a challenging time, assistance to other ministries, and other practical assistance as the need arises.

Placing your name on our list of "Helping Hands" means you are willing to provide help those in need. Most Helping Hands communications are done via email; however, we will call you via phone if there is a last minute situation. Our hope is that you will prayerfully consider becoming part of this important ministry. At a time when many of us are so busy with work and home, this can be a simple way to do the Lord's work, and make a tough day a little easier for someone.

Everybody has a place in Helping Hands! For more information on this ministry or to find out how to sign up email us here.

The first class shows you that you were made to be a part of a church family.

Healthy families share common beliefs, purposes and commitment, just like a healthy church family does, and that is why this class focuses on the identity and beliefs of this church.

God wants you to grow in fellowship, discipleship, ministry, evangelism and worship. It's by balancing those five purposes that you truly live out God's plan for your life. More than anything else, we want to come beside you and help you grow in all five of these areas.

Our next class will be held Sunday February 10th at 4:00 pm in room 201.

Associate Pastor: Jon & Tricia Nichols - Meet Our Staff Team

Jon was raised on an almond farm in Livingston, CA. He graduated from Livingston High School in 1988 and continuing on to develop his creative side by studying fine art at CSU, Stanislaus for 3 ½ years. After getting a taste of ministry, as interim youth minister at NLCC, he moved to the Seattle area to pursue and earn a BA degree in Religion and Philosophy from Northwest College of the Assemblies of God. While he was there, he met a really pretty young lady studying Elementary Education: Tricia. She and Jon were married in a beautiful garden on a really hot day in Powell, Wyoming in June, 1994.

Jon & Tricia have been a team in ministry for over twelve years. During most of that time, Jon has been a youth pastor in places such as Kent, WA; Powell, WY; and Houston, TX. Prior to moving to Turlock, he was at Trinity Assembly of God in Rawlins, WY, where he was the senior pastor for more than 4 ½ years. Jon brings to our church family a passion to help people grow stronger in their walk with Christ. You could also find him leading fresh and creative outreach times.

Jon & Tricia have four incredible children (Ashtyn, Kaibree, Colby, & Jackson) who they enjoy just having fun with in California's wonderful sunshine. Swimming, biking, craft-making, and playing at the beach are some of the activities they love doing together.

Children experiencing divorce tell us they feel alone and helpless. Your children may feel scared, sad and confused. They may hide their feelings from you because they are worried about your happiness or because they do not know how to express their feelings appropriately.

What is DC4K?

DC4K is a special group to help your children heal from the pain caused by a separation or divorce. DC4K provides your children with a safe and neutral place to recognize and learn to share their feelings.

For 13 weeks your children become involved in a fun, caring group at a church near you. The weekly session topics help your children learn that God's love strengthens them and helps them turn their sadness to hope and their anger to joy.

Each session is filled with motivating and exciting activities. Games, crafts, role playing, discussion times, journaling and workbooks help your children process the divorce and move forward in their lives. The music CDs, snacks, read aloud stories, exercises and Bible verses teach your children to relax and rest secure in God's love. The Kids Like Me and Stories from the Bible video dramas present stories of children just like your children, who are experiencing divorce-related problems and have found help and encouragement.

DC4K is a powerful ministry for kids 5-12 years of age. Our next session starts March 5th at 6:30 pm. You can sign up by calling Dave Atkinson at 668-3238 or Stacy Mundello at 668-1235.

Prayer - Ways to Grow

Prayer... ..building a deep relationship with God.

If anything characterized the early Christian Church, it was a life of prayer, and their practice needs to be our pattern.
God has called us to be a praying church and we must respond together to seek Him and know HIm. There is a direct tie between prayer and seeing God's kingdom grow. It is no accident that prayer precedes and maintains God's presence & power. The Bible points to the fact that all true, effective spiritual work is an outflow of prayer. Where people pray, God acts.
But having a consistent prayer life is a challenge to each of us. We all feel we could pray more but our lives and the pace of our culture doesn't help us. The enemy, knowing prayer's power, tries to disrupt, discourage and distract us from prayer.
Despite these challenges, we can become people who pray. It does require discipline, but the rewards are well worth it. Here are some practical guidelines as you renew your commitment to prayer.

• Don't view prayer as a legalistic requirement or means to earn "points" with God.
Our relationship with God is based on faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross, and not on performance. Prayer is a way to "plug in" to your life source, and as a pathway to know & love Jesus more.

• Don't let inconsistency stop you.
The enemy would like to think that if you miss praying for a while, that God gets mad and doesn't want to hear from you anymore. NO WAY! It is an opportunity to come to a God who loves you. Don't give up if you are struggling with inconsistency; connect with God wherever you are.

• God doesn't punch a prayer time clock for you when you pray.
Simply spend some time each day in prayer. Look for opportunities to pray while driving (please leave your eyes open!), doing chores or other moments. But also set aside those moments when prayer is the focus of what you're doing. Remember, God longs for an ongoing conversation with you.

• Use a list to keep you on track.
The God of the universe calls us to move with plan and purpose just as He does. Make a list, or keep a journal where you can keep track of your prayer requests and God's answers to those prayers.

Remember, our goal is to grow in a relationship with God. Just as with any area of your Christian life, it is a maturing process. Here is a prayer plan to help you: make your devotional life your highest priority. Find a way to spend time daily to be with Jesus in prayer. Take time to just honestly talk with Him, pouring your heart out to Him. Prayerfully read a portion of the Bible, and allow time to let the Lord speak to you. You will grow to know and love him more.

Second, have a regular time of prayer for family, friends, and issues. Pray for local, national, and international concerns. Pray for the church and leaders. Let the Holy Spirit lead your praying.

Third, find someone to join you as a partner to pray for needs and concerns.

The Bible - Ways to Grow

While all true Christians recognize the authority and importance of Scripture; they often don't translate that perspective into daily living. Being "rock solid" in Jesus means we know His word and stand on it during the storms and pressures of life (see Matt 7:24-27). It's not a matter of a few verses we've learned, or some weekly teaching we get in church, but what counts is our personal, regular commitment to knowing what God has said in His Word. Here are some practical suggestions to help you get and stay on track.

First, read and study the Bible to know Jesus better. Whether you are just reading or studying in depth, let your motive be to grow in knowing God, letting Him show Himself and His truth to you. Bible study isn't just gaining information; it's formation - letting His word shape and form your life.

Second, realize the need for commitment and discipline. It's not a matter of feeling "led", but to regularly make time to read and study by Bible. It must be a priority. "Sow a habit, reap a lifestyle."

    Now for the practices:

Read your Bible daily.
Regularly read through the Bible. This reading through will give you a sense of the continuity, context and content of the Bible. (Matt 4:4)

Read devotionally and prayerfully
Ask God to speak to you. Don't read legalistically to, "do your time." Read to encounter Jesus, the one who will speak to us as we read. (Psalm 119:18; 139:23,24)

Memorize and meditate on Scripture
As you are able, memorize verses that really impact you. This allows for thoughtful meditation on the Word and it serves as a resource for fighting the enemy (Psalm 1:1; 19:11, 97) and guarding against sin.

Confess the Scripture
Learn to battle as Jesus did, declaring Scripture at the enemy and at your problems. The Bible speaks much about our need to speak the Truth of His Word. (Romans 10:8-10)

Obey the Scripture
Let us allow His Word to shape and impact our thoughts, motives and actions. (Hebrews 4:12; Psalm 119:10)

Begin a planned systematic study
Personally study different aspects of the Bible: books, chapters, characters, themes, doctrines, etc. Use Bible reference tools to enhance your study. Try the "Through the Bible in One Year" Bible or booklets.

Be a Part of group study times

• Study with friends in informal groups

• Be a part of a Sunday Morning Catalyst group. These interactive discussion groups meet during both services.

• Join the Community Bible Study. This study lets you dig deep into Scripture. Wednesday mornings at NLCC, Sept-May.

Ultimately it all comes down to your response. Growing in Jesus requires a love and hunger to grow in His Word, and no one can do that for you. It really is our personal responsibility to feed ourselves. Even though our pastors and teachers do all they can to teach well, it can't be a substitute for our individual commitment to the Bible.

Resource List
The following are good resources for Bible study.

Bible versions
• NLV (New Living Version) • NIV (New International Version)
• NCV (New Century Version) • The Message

Computer Tools
• For Mac - Accordance; QuickVerse for Mac; Logos Bible for Mac

• For PC's - Nelson's eBible; Logos Bible Software; BibleWorks; QuickVerse

What is our Online Community?

Our Online community is the area of our website reserved for members and attendees. When you log in, you will be able to see your own profile information, the groups you are participating in, the positions you hold, your own giving record, events you might be interested in, and easily communicate with other members, and much more! You can update your profile information and make sure that our records are correct. Also, you can fill in some of the "fun" information like the activities you enjoy, the music styles your prefer, your favorite radio station, and more, so that others can get to know you better. We hope you enjoy the online community!

Is my information private?

While our database contains anyone who is on our mailing list and our website is public, our online community is private in that only those who have login and passwords assigned to them can join in. After your request has been accepted, you will be given login and password information. You can decide whether to participate and whether your information will be "listed" to other Online Members or "unlisted". Unlisted information is not seen by anyone beyond our staff and key leaders with "administrative privileges" who contact individuals requesting information or for use as a mailing list. All individual information gathered to our database is "unlisted" until an individual Online Member requests it to be "listed".

How do I use the online community?

The best way to see what the New Life Christian Center Online Community is about, is to visit the website and use your login and password and "look around". If you decide you don't want to be a part to the community, you can at anytime request to be "unlisted" and merely discontinue using it. It works as a personal calendar, a church calendar, a program of events, and a communication tool between members and groups. We hope that you will be able to get better connected by participating in "Discussions", looking for "Groups" that may be of interest to you and then joining one! You may also find a place to use your gifts by looking at our volunteer "Positions".

What are the guidelines for use?

Please protect the privacy of fellow Members! Violating any of these guidelines will result in blocked access. By becoming an Online Community Member you agree to the following rules of use:

Eli and Cindi met at CSUS where he received a BA in Liberal Studies and then went on to receive his teaching credential.

Eli's love of music has been evident throughout his whole life. Starting in 4th grade playing the trumpet and since then enjoying a variety of musical avenues such as the CSUS Wind Ensemble, Worship Bands and Local Bands (i.e. Canterbury, 3 Day Trip, By Way of Joshua, Widow's Mite and most recently Zuzu's Petals).

You might find Eli and his family playing Frisbee golf at CSUS or enjoying time writing, arranging and playing music.
